Gene Peterson

Gene Peterson, the new KCU Head Coach, was the Quarterbacks Coach for the previous two seasons. A Marion County native, Gene started his coaching career at Breathitt County High School as an assistant coach and then spent 26 years at Fleming County High School. During that time he served as Offensive Coordinator and was Head Coach for 10 Seasons. He retired as Principal in 2010 and that fall was the Head Football Coach at Manchester High School in Ohio. His teams won Eastern KY Conference Championships four times, one district championship,, and were ranked in the statewide Top-10 on six occasions. He is a three-time Conference Coach of the Year. During his many years at the helm of sports teams, he has also led boys and girls basketball and baseball teams.

Coach Peterson has completed multiple degrees and certifications from Morehead State University. He holds a B.S. in Industrial Education, Masters in Vocational Education, Elementary Endorsement Grades 1-8, Rank 1 in Elementary Education, and a Secondary Leadership Certificate. He spent 4 years in the Navy as an Aviation Electronics Technician with an F-4 Fighter Squadron. He and Glenna, his wife of 30+ years, have a daughter, Sarah (Corbin), and a son, Jody (Tammy). They have two grandchildren, Ashton and Denton.

James Hoot Gibson

James "Hoot" Gibson is entering his second season as the Recruiting Coordinator & Defensive Line Coach at KCU. He is a graduate of Central High School in Wartburg, TN. and Bethel University. He has a degree in Criminal Justice Education and he was a Criminal Justice/Jobs for Tennessee Graduates teacher in Eastern Tennessee. He has taught and coached at Wartburg Central HS and Hickman Co. HS. He worked as a Deputy Sheriff for Morgan Co Tennessee and in state law enforcement. He came to KCU from Southern Tech in Charlotte, NC, where he was the Defensive Line and Recruiting Coordinator.

He is the son of Carson-Newman All-America player and Hall of Fame coach Jim "Hoot" Gibson, who was a highly successful Eastern Tennessee HS coach for over 40 years.

While at KCU Coach Gibson help mentor one All-American, Two All Mid-South players, Two All-NCCAA players and one All Mid-South Academic Team player. He was also selected to coach in the 2014 USA Football Senior Bowl in Hoover, AL and the 2013 Euro-American Challenge in Myrtle Beach, SC. Coach Gibson was also the 2012 Southern Christian Athletic Conference Assistant Coach of the Year.

Greg Blue

Coach Greg Blue returns to KCU from Marshall University where he was a Defensive Quality Control and Recruiting Assistant during the 2013 season. He had been the KCU Safeties coach during the 2012 season. In 2011 he was in charge of defensive backs at Waldorf College and prior to that he was an assistant coach at Eagan High School in Eagan, Minn.

Greg began his football career at the University of Georgia where he played Safety and was a 2005 1st Team Consensus All-American, a 2005 1st Team All-SEC Player, and a 2005 Defensive Captain. Blue was a member of two SEC Championship teams during his time at the University of Georgia and for his efforts and strong play he was named a member of the 2000’s All-Decade team for the University of Georgia. In 2006, Coach Blue was a 5th round draft pick for the Minnesota Vikings. In 2008 he moved to the Detroit Lions and in 2010 he went to the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League. He retired in early 2011.

As a high school player at Banneker High School in College Park, Georgia Coach Blue earned many accolades, including being named to the Super Southern 100, a Top 50 player in the state of Georgia, the Marvelous 11 Metro squad, the Class AAA All-State First team and the Class AAA All-Decade team for the 2000’s, to name a few of his accomplishments.

Coach Blue is from Atlanta, Georgia and is actively involved in the community. He works with Habitat for Humanity, the 4-H Program, UGA HEROS, Thomas Davis Defending Dreams Foundation and a number of other foundations and programs.

Alfred Jitter Fields

Alfred "Jitter" Fields played football at Harold Grady Spruce HS in Dallas, TX and then the University of Texas at Austin. He was selected in the 1984 NFL draft, taken in the 5th round by the New Orleans Saints. He played for the Saints, Indianapolis Colts, and the Kansas City Chiefs of the NFL; the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the CFL; the Dallas Texans, Arizona Rattlers, and Detroit Drive of the Arena Football League; and the Oklahoma City Twisters of the Minor Football League.

He served as the Defensive Coordinator of the MFL's Twisters, and then began coaching both Football and Track and Field at a series of Detroit area high schools. He comes to KCU directly from the Stars Football League, where he was a head coach.

Though he considers himself a Texas Longhorn first, he holds an Associate Degree from Pueblo Community College (Colorado), a Bachelors in Social Science and Secondary Education from Colorado State University - Pueblo, and a Masters in Education from Sherwood University. His wife, Malita Lynn, is an attorney for the state of Michigan, and they have one daughter, Maria Liberty Fields.

Johnnie Morant, Jr.

Coach Johnnie Morant, Jr. enters his second season as the strength and conditioning coordinator and wide receivers coach. Born in Newark, NJ and raised in Parsippany, NJ, he played high school ball for Parsippany Hills HS, where he was a Parade All-American, and was rated as the best wide receiver in the East, and #3 nationally by Prep Star. He played for Syracuse University, and is tenth overall in receiving yardage, but eighth in yards per catch, with 1535 and 17.4, respectively. He averaged nearly 24 yards per return as a kick returner. He completed his career at Syracuse with 88 receptions and 7 TD's, a string of catches in 29 consecutive games, and a Bachelors in Sociology. In 2004, he was drafted in the 5th Round by the NFL Oakland Raiders, and played 4 seasons with them. While with the Raiders, he played for and was mentored by Fred Biletnikoff. He also had some time in the Canadian Football League, with both the Toronto Argonauts and the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

From 2009-2011 he was an assistant coach at his alma mater of Parsippany Hills HS. He comes to KCU from Southern Tech, where he was the Offensive Coordinator and Head Strength and Conditioning Coach.

While at KCU Coach Morant help mentor an All-American Wide Receiver who was invited to a All Star game and an All Mid-South Academic Wide Receiver.

Tommy Rewis

Coach Rewis comes to KCU from Hickman Co. HS in Tennessee, where he was the head coach for the previous 3 seasons. He previously coached at Fairview HS and Heritage HS in Tennessee, and at Robert Toombs Academy and in the Tift area in Georgia. Tommy is originally from Jacksonville Beach, Florida, and he attended Riverview Academy in Albany, Georgia. He was a 3-year letter-earner as a running back and kicker at Samford University in Birmingham, AL alongside current Florida State University Head Coach Jimbo Fisher, under Terry Bowden. In 1987, their team set the NCAA record for points per game average, with 52.1.

Coach Rewis graduated from Samford University with a BS in Education. He has taught History, Psychology, and Physical Education during his teaching career. He has taught and coached football and track in Tennessee and Georgia for 18 years, and has a couple of years experience as an Athletic Director. He was an area coordinator for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes for several years as well.

Blake Cattrell

Coach Blake Cattrell comes to Kentucky Christian University from Culver-Stockton College, where he was an assistant coach, leading the tight ends and offensive line. While working at Culver-Stockton, Coach Cattrell also worked with the special teams players, focusing specifically on the longsnappers. Prior to working for the Culver-Stockton football program, he was at Taylor University working with the offensive line and assisting with the special teams.

Originally from Westerville, Ohio, Coach Cattrell played his high school football at Westerville South High School, one of the top high school football programs in Central Ohio. Upon graduation from Westerville South, he went on to become a four-year letter winner at Taylor University. As a collegiate senior Coach Cattrell was selected to participate in the 2012 Ohio College Football Senior Bowl, playing against top seniors from Ohio colleges and universities. Coach Cattrell received a B.S. degree from Taylor University in Biology Science Education.

Dovonte Edwards

Dovonte comes to KCU with more than 14 years of experience as a collegiate 2-sport athlete, professional football player, talent evaluator and football coach.

Coach Edwards attended high school at Chapel Hill High School (North Carolina) where he was a two sport Super Prep All-American in basketball and football. His collegiate career began at North Carolina State University where he was a top receiving target of Phillip Rivers and a reserve guard for the Men’s Basketball team. He would later find his niche as a cornerback during his final two seasons after recording starts on both offense and defense. Dovonte was named Most Outstanding Defensive Back and voted the most Versatile Athlete following his senior season, contributing as a wide receiver, defensive back, punt returner and point guard.

Coach Edwards would play 8 years as a professional athlete in the National Football League, Canadian Football League and United Football League. He was signed to the Minnesota Vikings in 2005 where he led his team in special teams stops and returned a Brett Farve pass for a touchdown on Monday Night Football in his rookie season. He went on to compete for the New York Giants and Detroit Lions of the NFL, the Toronto Argonauts of the CFL and the Omaha Nighthawks of the UFL before retiring in 2012.

As a high school wide receivers coach at Northern Guilford High School in Greensboro, NC, Coach Edwards helped bring home the school's first state title. He served as a coaching consultant to the program for the past 3 years.

Coach Edwards also brings experience as a talent evaluator after shadowing long time NFL Player Personnel Executive Rick Mueller during an injury plagued 2011 season and serving as a scouting assistant and player. Dovonte continues to develop as an evaluator and his work has been featured in various publications, most notably, The Sporting News NFL Draft content.

Dovonte has a B.S. in Sports Management from NC State University. He lives in Chapel Hill, NC and when he is not working he enjoys spending time with family, playing basketball, traveling, developing youth, and building new relationships.

Todd Miller

Coach Todd Miller joins the KCU staff as the Defensive Ends coach. He has most recently served as Associate Head Coach and Defensive Coordinator at Flat Rock High School in Seneca, MI. Prior to Flat Rock he was the Linebackers coach at Waldorf College in Forrest City, Iowa. In 2011 Coach Miller served as the Defensive Coordinator at Rochester Community College in Minnesota. His 2011 defense finished in the top ten in the country in total defense.

Todd began his college coaching career at The University of Pikeville where he served as the Offensive Line & Tight Ends coach. He played at Scottsboro Christian Academy in Scottsboro Alabama, where he was an All Conference Defensive Tackle in 2004, and went on to play at Minnesota State in 2006.

Coach Miller started his coaching career in 2008 at Cannon County High School, TN coaching the Defensive Line.He also served as Offensive Coordinator at Community High School in Unionville, TN.

Caleb Cox

Coach Caleb Cox enters his second year coaching Wide Receivers at KCU. He ran track and played football for Coach James "Friday" Richards at Marietta High School in Marietta, Georgia. He was a 2 year letter earner on the gridiron, and earned 3 letters in track. He served as team captain and was selected to play in the Cobb County Senior All-Star Bowl.

A Wide Receiver for Kentucky Christian University, he was a 2012 Pre-Season All America, and he holds the KCU record for the most passes caught in a single game, with 12 receptions. Coach Cox was also invited and played in the NAIA vs. D2 game in Myrtle Beach, SC. He is a 2013 KCU honor roll graduate, and is currently enrolled in the Masters in Christian Leadership program.
