Knight Basketball Splits in Super 8
In the Super 8 basketball tournament this weekend, the Knight basketball team seemed to settle into their rhythm just a little more. On Thursday, KCU faced the Bulldogs of Union College, and did not fare so well on the scoreboard, losing 105-72, but the game was better played than the scoreboard tells. On Saturday, the Knights took on University of Miami-Hamilton, and defeated them 87-84.
On the weekend, KCU was led in scoring by Caleb Ford with 33 and Tyler Farley with 32. Dylan Genung had 28, Ace Puckett dropped 20, and Trevor Hunt scored 19. A sore spot has been free throw shooting, and this continued, with the Knights only hitting .651 as a team over the two game stretch, while their opponents hit .714. From 3 point range, KCU shot .250. Ace Puckett was strong on the boards, pulling down 21 (11 were offensive) rebounds, including a double-double in scoring and rebounding against Miami-Hamilton with 13 each. Trevor Hunt had 15 rebounds, while Caleb Ford pulled down 11. Genung had 9 assists, and Hunt had 8 over those games, while Caleb Ford had 3 blocks.
The season is young, and it is looking like it will be a good one for the Knights. They are in action next at the Valley Forge (Christian College) Classic, in the Philadephia, PA area. On Thursday they take on Hillsdale Freewill Baptist College, on Friday they have Lincoln Christian University, and on Saturday they will play host Valley Forge Christian College. The Knights are now 1-5.
