Knights Football Falls to Defending National Champion
On Saturday, August 31, new KCU Head Coach Gene Peterson and the Knights traveled to Indianapolis, IN to take on the Knights of Marian University, the defending NAIA National Champion and 2013 Pre-season #2 team. Because of the weather anomaly in Southern Indiana this evening, the game will be remembered for more than just the score. There was significant rain prior to the game, and while there was low pressure in the atmosphere, the game itself was high-pressure for the Knights.
The game began slowly, but Marian scored a field goal just seconds into the second quarter, and then they put a touchdown on the board with about 9 minutes left in the half, 9-0. After a quick turnover, Marian scored again to take the score to 16-0 at just under 7 minutes in the half. With 6:37 left in the second period, the game was suspended due to lightning in the area. After the delay, Marian scored another touchdown and converted the extra point, bringing the score to 23-0, and at 5:42 remaining in the first half, a second delay was called due to lightning.
After nearly an hour, and when there seemed no sure end to the electrical activity in the area, the weather delay was converted to a game stoppage, with the KCU falling to Marian 23-0 in their opener.
