Football Defeated at Union College
On Saturday, the Knights traveled to Barbourville, KY to Union College to meet the Bulldogs. Union entered the game with a 2-5 record, but having played several high scoring contests. KCU got on the board first, on a Drew Slikker field goal at about the half-way point of the first quarter. Then with 11:21 to go in the second quarter, Justin Crager dove in for a TD, putting the Knights up 10-0. The Bulldogs intercepted a KCU pass and returned it 52 yards just before the half, making the score 10-7. On the play, offensive lineman Preston Collier was injured and taken off in an ambulance.
Union College scored two unanswered touchdowns in the third quarter, taking the score to 21-10. They also put up a field goal with 9:48 left in the game to reach their final point total of 24. The Knights' Marcus Hicks caught a pass and scored a TD with just under 7 minutes remaining, keeping the KCU hope alive. But on KCU's critical possession, QB Isaac Brabson was intercepted, and Union was able to run out the clock without surrendering the ball again.
KCU had 17 first downs, compared to Union's 15, and were 15 of 33 with 2 interceptions, against Union's 10 of 22 and 1 pick. Jamuel Jones led all rushers with 99 yards, while DeAndre Riddick had 4 catches for 62 yards. Andrew Stewart again led the defense with 9 tackles, but Glen Rowell was right on his heels with 8. Jeryl Christian had 6 tackles and 1 QB sack.
The Knights are at home next week, hosting the University of Pikeville. Game time is at 1:30 PM.
