Men's Soccer Wins at WVU-Parkersburg
On Thursday Knight Soccer traveled to Parkersburg, WV to take on the WVU-Parkersburg Riverhawks. Maybe it was the long bus trip, or maybe the fact that it was fall break, but they weren't at home, but for some reason the Knights did not start this match with a fire in their stomachs. WVU-P got out of the box quickly, scoring about in the first minute. KCU did not seem shaken by this, nor were they awakened by it. The Riverhawks scored again in the 27th minute, and the Knights went into the half down 2-0. At this point, the stats line looked very similar across the board, except that KCU had no points, and WVU-P had converted on 2 of their 4 shots.
But things were not to remain for long. KCU returned from the half determined to win, and their attitudes and hustle-play turned the game around. In the 51st minute, Jon-Eric Stiles put in a penalty kick for the Knights' first score, then in the 64th minute, a Caleb Yankey assist led to a goal by Tyler Walker, pulling the game back to even. The surge of strong play continued with another goal minutes later by Derrek Richardson, assisted by Tyler Walker. In the 72nd minute, Trent Smith scored from a Jon-Eric Stiles pass, and then Dallas Coning scored in the 86th minute on a pass from Stiles. WVU-P scored in the 76th and 88th minutes, but the game ended with KCU on top 5-4.
Stiles led the team with 4 points on 1 goal and 2 assists, while Tyler Walker added 3 points. Goalkeeper Chace Adkins had 4 saves to mirror his 4 goals against, while the defense gave up only 2 corner kicks and earned 4. This match completes KCU Knight Soccer's regular season, and brings their record to 7-10 on the year. They will play Appalachian Bible College on Friday at 5 PM at Johnson University.
