Knight Soccer Players Receive NCCAA-II Awards
The National Christian College Athletic Association recently announced the NCCAA-II Soccer Awards for the 2013 season. Two members of the Kentucky Christian University Men's Soccer squad were honored.
Jon-Eric Stiles, a center-midfielder from Morehead, KY, was named to the NCCAA Soccer DII Second Team All-America Team. Jon-Eric is a freshman studying Sports Management at KCU, and he was one of only 3 freshman in NCCAA-II to be so honored. Stiles was an integral part of Coach Miller's first recruiting class of 11 players. He served as a leader on a team that went 8-11 after being 1-16 in 2012.
Coach Jeremy Miller says “Jon-Eric is the athlete that every coach is looking for. His work ethic and desire to learn and grow in the game put him at the top. Jon-Eric held the center of the field and a lot of our play flowed through him. Jon-Eric is not only a great athlete on the field but he is an all around quality guy. His respect and desire to help his teammates is something special. I look forward to watching Jon-Eric continue to improve in every aspect over the next three years.”
Jordan McClarnon, a midfielder and striker from Raleigh, NC, was named an NCCAA Soccer DII Scholar Athlete. The criteria for this distinction is junior standing or higher, and GPA of 3.4 or better. Jordan is a Junior Youth Ministry major. Coach Miller had this to say: “Jordan experienced his best season to date. He is an all-around gifted guy. A former hockey player on the soccer field is fun to watch. Jordan is one of the spiritual leaders on the team. As a Youth and Family Ministry major, Jordan volunteers his time helping with the Oak Grove Church of Christ youth group. In addition to these extra-curricular activities he excels in the classroom. I admire the effort that Jordan puts into everything he does and I am looking forward to seeing how God continues to use him."
