Lady Knights Down Lady Grenadiers
On Tuesday the Lady Grenadiers of Indiana University Southeast came to town to take on the Lady Knights. IUSE came into the game with a 4-0 record, hoping to keep that zero. They did not manage that task.
The Lady Grenadiers got out to a good start, and maintained a small lead for the entire first half, going in at halftime up 33-30. But KCU equalized that score on their first possession, and the game was nip and tuck through the end, with neither team leading by more than 5 for the entire second half. With about 23 seconds remaining, the Lady Knights were up by 3, and IU-SE took a time-out and discussed their game plan. They came out and scored a 2, then failed to defend the KCU in-bounds play well, and gave up a 2 to KCU's Sharonda Jones. The game ended with KCU in the lead at 70-67.
Tanya Bowens led all scorers with 24, while Sharonda Jones dropped in 14. Jessica Marshall and Katelyn Meyer each had 8, Monica Stevens put in 6, Jana Glick had 4, and Paige Warren, Allie Slone and Ashleigh Gyalog each hit a single basket. Monica Stevens led the rebounding with 11 boards, while Glick and Marshall each pulled in 6, only one less than IU-SE's leading rebounder. Marshall pulled down the rebound on the shot final shot that the Lady Grenadiers took, stopping their last effort. The Lady Knights shot .500 from the field and from 3-point land and 1.000 from the foul line in the second half.
The Lady Knights play Hillsdale Freewill Baptist College on Thursday in the Valley Forge Christian College Classic in Valley Forge, PA.
