Lady Knights Host Berea College Mountaineers
On Friday evening, December 6, the Lady Knights played host to the Mountaineers of Berea College. KCU got off to a quick start, and were able to go up early on Berea College, who were not shooting well to start the game. But as the Mountaineers found their rhythm, their defensive press began to affect the Lady Knights, and soon the score was equalized, and then Berea pulled ahead slightly. At the half, KCU was down 39-43.
In the second, KCU came out freshened, and played with a new vigor, taking back the lead and at one point leading by as much as 4 themselves, only to have Berea push their pressure a bit, and up their tempo. The Mountaineers separated themselves slightly from KCU late in the game, eventually taking a 10 point lead, and winning by 9 at 72-81. Jana Glick and Tanya Bowens scored 23 each for KCU, with Glick pulling down 7 boards, while Bowens scored a double-double with 10 assists. Sharonda Jones had 9 points while Jessica Marshall threw in 5. The Lady Knights shot .422 from the field, but only .150 from behind the arc, and were 15 of 24 from the line, for .625. Berea's Johnesha Warren dropped 23, Kaitlynne Smith had 17, KK Butler had 14, and Erika Parks scored 12, while Anna Loveless pulled down 11 boards.
The Lady Knights are now on hiatus through the Christmas season, and return to action on Friday and Saturday, January 10-11, 2014, in Circleville, Ohio at Ohio Christian University's classic-format event, against Maranatha Baptist Bible College of Watertown, Wisconsin. The game will be at 2 PM, then at 11 am on Saturday, KCU will take on Northland International University of Dunbar, Wisconsin. The Lady Knights are 7-6 on the season.
