Lady Knights Win At Ohio Christian Winter Classic
The Lady Knights traveled to Circleville, Oh on Friday and Saturday, January 10-11, to reopen their 2013-14 season in the OCU Winter Classic. The Lady Knights closed out the fall semester portion of their schedule at 7-6, but ranked #1 in the NCCAA-II. On Friday afternoon, the Lady Knights took on the Crusaders of Maranatha Baptist Bible College, of Watertown, Wisconsin.
The Lady Knights led the Crusaders, who came into the game 5-8 on the season, by 11 at the half, 35-24, and downed them by that same lead, at 64-53. The KCU victory was a true team effort as the Lady Knights were playing with only 8 players, and for the first time this season without senior guard Tanya Bowens. Senior forward Sharonda led the scoring with 9, including going 5 of 8 from the foul line. Senior center Monica Stevens had 8 points and 5 boards, and junior Jana Glick had 7 and 5 rebounds. Jessica Marshall had 5, including KCU's only triple of the game. Freshman Allie Slone had 2 points and 2 offensive boards in her first starting role. Fellow freshmen Kathryn Raines and Taylor Thrasher finished out the scoring with 2 each.
On Saturday, the Lady Knights took on the Pioneers of Northland International University in Dunbar, Wisconsin. They came in with only two wins on the season, against a KCU team that was back at full strength. The Lady Knights jumped out quickly, and never looked back, holding NIU to 39-13 at the half, and defeating them 91-38. KCU was led in scoring by Bowens with 30, Sharonda Jones with 18, and Jana Glick with a double-double of 13 points and 13 boards. Jessica Marshall threw in 10, while sophomore Jerrah Epling had her best total of the season with 9. The Lady Knights advanced their record to 9-6, and are in action on Tuesday against Ohio Christian University in Circleville, OH.
