Tanya Bowens To Represent USA
Following May graduation, Lady Knights’ basketball player, Tanya Bowens just wasn’t ready for her basketball life to be over. The highly decorated point guard got her wish! Bowens was invited to a national tryout with the hopes of representing the USA on the Jones Cup team. After a strong showing during the tryout she was left playing the waiting game, that is until she received an email that started…
…”On behalf of the United States Jones Cup Women’s National Team, I am pleased to announce that you have been selected to play for the 2014 Women’s Jones Cup Team.” You can well imagine the emotion to the news. Not only continuing to play a sport you love but in doing so, getting to represent your country as well! A dream comes true!
The team is scheduled to rendezvous in Los Angeles on August 16 and departs for Taipei on August 17. Play begins in Taiwan on August 20 and runs through August 24. The Jones Cup is a FIBA recognized event that is respected worldwide.
At the event, the USA team, which includes several former WNBA players along with players from all levels of collegiate women’s basketball, will compete against other Olympic National Teams live on Fox Sports. Head Coach Will De La Cruz is extremely confident his squad has strong medal capabilities.
