Lady Knights Capture 26th Straight Region Title
For the 26th consecutive year the KCU Lady Knights Basketball Team has captured the Region WBB banner. The most recent win came against #2 seed Ohio Christian on Saturday, February 27th. The final score of 76-70 indicates the game was close at the end, but it was a game of two halves. KCU managed to shoot over 60% in the first half and built a 21 point lead with 5 seconds remaining. With the ball in her hands at 27 feet OCU's Schilling launched a shot at the buzzer. It hit the backboard then the rim and bounced up in the air and through the net to leave the halftime score at 44-26. That small boost gave OCU the momentum to come out in the second half and score the first 9 points of the half. From there it was a battle. KCU alternated between turning the ball over and hitting shots, shooting 65% in the first half and 50% in the second, finishing the game at 29-49, 59%. They also turned the ball over 29 times as OCU pressed full court for much of the game. Coach Arnett had this to say after the game was over, "I tried to get our kids to not think about the success of the first half, OCU is too good for that. I knew they would come back and they did. Our defense lost its intensity and our shooting was flat early in the second half. When we finally snapped out of it there was a fight to be won. Fortunately, we hit some bit shots and pulled out another win." Senior Kristin Hecht led the way for the Lady Knights with 32 points and 9 rebounds. Danyle Butte let OCU with 17 points. KCU will advance to the NCCAA II National Tournament where they are seeking their fourth straight championship.
