Women's Soccer Struggles in Opening Weekend
The Lady Knights Soccer team opened their season on Friday, August 30, with a neutral site game with Clearwater Christian College, the NCCAA-II Women's Soccer Defending National Champion. The match was held at Toccoa Falls College, in Toccoa Falls, GA. Clearwater Christian College scored very early in the match, and managed a 3-0 lead by the half. They put 5 more goals on the board to take down the Lady Knights 8-0.
The following day, Saturday, KCU's luck seemed at first to be a little better, but that soon changed as well. While taking on Toccoa Falls College on their home field, KCU's Erin Dillow scored with an assist from Kelsie Thomas. Kelsie Thomas put the Lady Knights up 2-0 when she scored on a penalty kick just before the half. Just after the start of the second half, lightning in the area halted the match. The electrical activity in the area continued, and when the delay was nearly reaching the two hour mark, the game was halted and canceled. It was ruled a non-contest, and so KCU's attempt to level their record was thwarted by the elements. Coach Joshua Miller has stated that he will seek to reschedule a match with Toccoa Falls if a neutral site and an amenable date can be secured.
