Lady Knight Soccer Loses to Shawnee State Bears
The Lady Knight Soccer Team traveled to Portsmouth, Ohio today to play the first match of the final week of regular season competition. Just back from a Tennessee swing that saw them win 3-0 over NCCAA-II competition, the KCU squad was hopeful against their nearest NAIA opponent.
Shawnee State did not wait long to start the scoring, putting in their first goal in the 3rd minute of play, when they fired a successful shot from the top of the penalty box. They put another point on the board in the 7th minute on a break-away that got behind the defense. SSU scored 9 times, while the Lady Knights managed only 3 total shots, all taken in the first half. The score at the half was 5-0.
KCU keeper Chelsea Gallinger was credited with 16 saves, while the Lady Knights put 2 of their 3 balls on-goal. Shawnee State committed 15 fouls, to KCU's 3, while the Lady Knights took only 3 corner kicks and the Bears earned 8.
KCU is now 2-11 on the season, and are in action next at Midway, KY on Friday. Game time has been moved to 4:30 PM.
Also, the schedule bracket for the NCCAA-II championship tournament has been released. The expectation is that KCU will play against Johnson University at 12 Noon on Friday, November 1.
