Kentucky Christian University is excited to announce the addition of Women’s Fast-Pitch softball to the university’s athletic programs in 2014. With the Lady Knights softball program set to launch next fall, KCU will be poised to play its first games in the spring of 2015. The program will be led by head coach, Dave Miller, an Ashland, KY native known for his success as head coach with the Ashland Paul-Blazer High School Kittens. KCU President, Jeff Metcalf, is pleased to have Coach Miller join the KCU family and says that:

"The opportunity to launch a fast pitch softball program with a head coach of Dave Miller's stature is truly exciting.  As President, whenever I consider a coaching prospect I first look to ensure that the person's character and values align with the Christ-centered mission of KCU; following that assessment, I then want to know that the coach is passionate about using athletics as a tool to develop young people.  I'm happy to say that Mr. Miller is exceptional on both fronts."

The KCU Lady Knights will compete on their home field at the Championship Fast-Pitch Complex, the tri-states #1 fast pitch softball facility in Ashland, KY. KCU Athletic Director, Bruce Dixon anticipates a highly-competitive softball program and says that:

“With the addition of women's fast pitch softball, the KCU athletic department is returning to the spring sports season.  With strong regional interest in softball, it is a natural fit for the university.  We anticipate a strong response locally and from around the state.  As with our other programs, we believe the community will see a strong, competitive team in the near future.”

Dave Miller began his coaching career as the Assistant Varsity/JV Coach for Ashland HS in 2004. Miller took over the Varsity program in 2006 where he lead the Kittens to six (6) District Titles, five (5) Regional Titles, and were Top 10 State Finishes twice. With a 203-76 record, Miller remains the most winning coach in Ashland history.

Numerous honors including:

  • 2006 & 2011 - 16th Region All Area Coach of the Year
  • 2008-9 - Northeastern Kentucky Umpires Association Softball Coach of the Year
  • 2009 - 16th Region Fast-Pitch Softball Coach of the Year
  • 2009-10 - Kentucky Preps Softball Coach of the Year

Miller was a standout baseball player at Boyd County HS. Awarded team MVP for 1982 & 1983, where Miller also received a full scholarship.
