Lady Knights Have Rough Start in VolleyDawg Classic
The Lady Knights volleyball team traveled to Lebanon, TN for the 2013 VolleyDawg Classic. KCU opened play against its host, Cumberland University and dropped a closely contested first set by the score of 26-28. Unfortunately, that was as close as they could get to CU as the Bulldogs won the next two sets (25-14, 25-12) and the match.
KCU was led in kills by Kylie Rice (8) and Megan Daniel (6). Junior setter Lauren Dunn had 22 assists and Jessi Hartzler contributed 14 digs and 16 receptions.
The second match didn't provide much relief for KCU as the Lady Knights dropped their second consecutive match for the first time this season. Freed-Hardeman University entered the match with a 6-6 record but with a win against the #3 Columbia College just two weeks ago. FHU handed KCU their third loss of the season with a 3-0 (17-25, 22-25, 18-25) neutral court victory.
Magen Daniel and Jenna Kelley led the team with 10 and 8 kills respectively. Again, Jessi Hartzler led KCU in digs with 22 and added 19 receptions. Dunn threw in 28 assists and 14 digs of her own.
KCU opens play Saturday with Ohio Valley University at 11:00am and then finishes play against Martin Methodist College beginning at 3:00pm.
