Home Sweep in Volleyball This Weekend
The was an awful lot of volleyball on the KCU campus this weekend, and the Lady Knights played most of it. On Friday evening KCU was host to The Crown College from Powell, TN. The Lady Knights went into the weekend with a record of 12-4. They got right to work, holding The Crown to only 4 points in the first set. The Lady Knights went on the win the match in 3 sets, with scores of 25-4, 25-19, and 25-15.
On Saturday, the Royals of Johnson University came to Grayson from Knoxville, TN. Though Johnson was a more competitive opponent, they fared no better against the Lady Knights, and fell in 3 sets as well, losing by 11, 12, and 11 points, respectively. Then at 4 PM the Flames of Welch College took the court against Kentucky Christian University, and were defeated in 3 sets, 25-4, 25-4, 25-11. At the conclusion of the match with the varsity, Welch also played a best-of-three match with the KCU Junior Varsity. The JV defeated the Flames 25-3 and 25-11.
The Lady Knight Varsity are now 15-4 on the season, and the JV has improved to 6-3. On the weekend, the statistical leaders were Jenna Kelley with 28 kills, and hitting at just under .489, and Magen Daniel with 21 kills at .452. Freshman Abbi McIlhany tallied 14 kills on 26 swings with only 2 errors, for a .461 average as well. Defensive Specialist Jill Forbear-Turner had 12 service aces on the weekend with only 4 errors, and she accounted for nearly half of KCU's 28 aces on the weekend. Libero Jessi Hartzler led the defense with 51 digs and 33 receptions, all with only 8 bad touches on the entire weekend. Magen Daniel was also a brute at the net, adding 14 blocks on the weekend. Kylie Rice was next in the blocking category with 4.
On Tuesday Appalachian Bible College will be coming to Grayson to finish the home-and-home series with Kentucky Christian. That action is currently scheduled for 7 PM.
