Volleyball Weekend Wrap-up (10.12.13)
The KCU Lady Knights finished the weekend with a 2-1 record. With wins over Midway College and Southern States Community College not to mention a tightly contested loss to Union College, Kentucky Christian is rounding into form for another strong post-season run.
The Lady Knights used a balanced attack to defeat Midway College 3-0 (25-15, 25-18, 25-23) on their home floor this past Friday. Leading the way offensively for KCU were juniors Magen Daniel, Lauren Dunn and Jenna Kelley. Dunn accounted for 30 assists along with a kill and an ace while Daniel and Kelley had nine kills each. Sophomore Ashley McQueary and freshman Abbi McIlhany chipped in seven kills apiece. Defensively, Jessi Hartzler and Jill Forbear-Turner tallied 13 & 12 digs respectively.
Saturday's play opened with a tightly contested loss to the #3 team in the Appalachian Athletic Conference, the Union College Bulldogs. Entering play, the two teams had combined for 31 wins and it more than lived up to the pre-match billing. UC (15-6) defeated KCU (17-5) by a 3-1 margin (23-25, 25-20, 25-19, 25-22).
Daniel and Kelley once again matched each other's offensive output with 14 kills and McIlhany added eight. Dunn's 37 assists paced the Lady Knights. Forbear-Turner delivered 15 digs, while Hartzler and Dunn each had 14 digs. Also on the defensive side, Daniel contributed 4 assisted blocks.
The final match of the day saw Kentucky Christian easily handle Southern States Community College. KCU defeated SSCC 3-0 (25-8, 25-15, 25-17). Magen Daniel led the Lady Knights statistically with 13 kills as every KCU player saw at least one set of action.
Kentucky Christian returns to action Tuesday as they travel to Mideast Region rival, Ohio Christian University. Match time is set for 7:00pm.
